Intellectual Property

The fictional vignette demonstrates how intellectual property is just like anything else that a person works very hard to create. There is no difference between stealing a skateboard and stealing music.

For this very important and current concept, students will be learning:

  • What intellectual property is and what rights people have in protecting it;
  • How intellectual property is protected by trademarks and copyrights and what kind of works can receive such protection; and
  • How are the artists and owners of protected works remunerated through royalties or licensing fees?
