Landlord Tenant

As students begin to move away from home and start out on their own, the need to understand leases and rental agreements becomes paramount. Along with employment law, the real property chapter gives students issues to consider and remember as they embark on the “real” world. For the real property chapter, students will be asked to think about:

  • How to negotiate a rental agreement by reading through a standard lease;
  • What to look for when reading a lease (i.e. security and pet deposits, utilities, etc.) and what some of these concepts mean;
  • What the different responsibilities are for the landlord and the tenant; and
  • How are lease or rental disputes handled?
