Section IV Tools to Learn: Copyright Protection

Identifying a Copyright SituationCreate two mini-scenarios that address the issue of copyright requirements.

  • A description of an “inventor” (the more creative the better)
  • A detailed description of an “invention” created by the inventor- one that is minimally creative, original and tangible in form and one invention that has one or more (but not all) of these requirements.

Address how each inventor in each scenario does/does not meet the requirements (using terms from the chapter like “minimal creativity,” “original,” “tangible in form”).

If you have time, you can also discuss what part of each invention the inventor has copyright protection for (i.e. song lyrics/arrangement vs. song idea, etc.).
